This piece explores contrast; the scramble between light and dark, shallows and depth, softness and heaviness… It was created intuitively, with little conscious intention of metaphor, which allows its interpretation to be open to the viewer - whether they see hope rising out of pain, the sun rising across a misty winter hedgerow, or a visual representation of a condition such as depression…. The scale of this piece also adds to its intensity and drama - allowing the viewer to feel truly ‘immersed’ in its depth. As such, it truly stands out wherever it is hung. Comparatively, it also stands out within my own body of artwork, utilising the same materials and process as my other works, but in a monochromatic palette. This is something I plan to explore in more depth through subsequent works.
